What are we doing?
The Diagnostic Sleeping Center is an outpatient care facility for people experiencing sleep problems. Because the center is very accessible, anyone who experiences poor sleep can go there. You can distinguish two large patient groups.
Patients who want to find out more about their sleep quality on their own initiative. They are in good health but still experience poor sleep and also feel the consequences during the day's tasks: fatigue, headache, nervousness.
In addition, you have patients who have been referred by a general practitioner or medical specialist for an outpatient sleep study. In addition to sleeping problems, these people often have other medical complaints for which they have already consulted a doctor
How does the Diagnostic Sleeping Center work?
Unlike the traditional sleep labs in hospitals, the DSC works on an outpatient basis. This means that you undergo your sleep study at home, in your own bed. That is immediately the biggest difference, because the DSC measures the same parameters as with a traditional sleep study.
After contact, the patient is invited for an interview at the Diagnostic Sleeping Center. During the interview, the referral letter from the general practitioner or specialist doctor is reviewed and the problems experienced by the patient are discussed in more detail.
Importantly, those who do not have a referral from a doctor, but experience poor sleep, are also welcome at DSC.
Afterwards, the patient receives all the information necessary to perform the sleep study correctly. The results are automatically sent via the device to the DSC where they are analyzed and advice is given to the physician-specialist.
Most common sleeping sicknesses
Insomnia
Insomnia, or insomnia, is without a doubt the most common sleep disorder. Characteristics are difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep, so that you are not rested during the day. To be able to speak of insomnia, the symptoms must be present for at least three months.
Hypersomnie
With hypersomnia, it is very difficult to stay awake during the day, even though you sleep a lot at night and during the day. You have a constant feeling of drowsiness.
Sleep apnea
Patients with sleep apnea stop breathing for a few seconds to a few minutes at night, causing you to suddenly wake up. Because you suddenly suck in a lot of air, you also snore very loudly.
Narcolepsy
People with narcolepsy feel a sudden and irresistible sleep attack during the day. Suddenly you are very sleepy and muscle relaxation can occur. Often in combination with a strong emotion.
